About Åsgårdstrand Student Housing

Åsgårdstrand Student Housing consists of many small, cosy houses in soft colours - all named after Edvard Munch's paintings. Here you can live in, for example, Skrik or Madonna!

The housing area was built in 1999, and consists of 20 couples apartments and family apartments all with a good standard. The apartments have from two to four bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen. 

You will receive a key card (free of charge) when you move into your accommodation. Your student ID card can also be programmed to function as a key card for your accommodation (also free of charge). This is how the key cards works:

EXTERNAL DOORS:
  • Present key card to the card reader; it will the blink green. Enter your four-digit code, and the door will unlock.

  • The card reader can be sensitive, so remember to hold the key card in your other hand while entering the code.

  • From the inside, you press the open switch to unlock and open the door.

  • The doors have automatic opening and closing.   

UNIT AND APARTMENT DOORS:
  • Present key card to the card reader, it will blink green, and the door unlocks. 

  • The door automatically locks when you close it, the door unlocks when you press down the handle and open the door.

ERROR MESSAGE ON THE CARD READER ON YOUR DORM/APARTMENT DOOR?

Green and red light flashing alternately: low battery voltage, the batteries must be replaced immediately. If the battery voltage is low, it can also happen that red and green flash at the same time. Report on Errors and defects on My page if you need battery replacement.

Remember: All key cards must be returned to SSN when you move out of your student housing. Dropbox location for delivery of your key. A fee will be charged if the key card is not returned. See the price list.

It is possible to install washing machines/tumble driers in all bathrooms. 

Åsgårdstrand student housing is located approximately 3 kilometres from USN. Near the student housing you will find the centre of Åsgårdstrand with its beautiful harbour, beach, restaurants and Munch's House. The buildings at Åsgårdstrand student housing are named after Edvard Munch's paintings.

There is one mailbox per apartment. Remember to mark your mailbox and to check it regularly! Read more about mail.

There are great outdoor areas with playground for the children and barbeque sites. 

There are good parking facilities and free parking.

All the apartments have private, spacious storage rooms.

Underground waste igloos are located by the main road. Remember to recycle!

Fixed supplement for electricity

The rent does not include electricity, but you get a fixed supplement on your rent invoice that covers electricity consumption per month. This means that you do not have to handle the electricity bill yourself, and that your living expenses are predictable.


Cable in router

Internet via cable


A router from SSN has been placed in your apartment. To use a wired connection, you must connect the device you wish to use through this.

We recommend that you use network cables of the standard cat5e or newer.

SSN external

This wireless network is reserved for tenants who do not have an account to use eduroam. If you are not a student or employee at USN you will find the password under the Internet tab on my page.

WiFi: Eduroam

This is the same wireless network that you will find on campus (in addition to a number of other locations). To log in to eduroam, you must use your student account ([email protected] + password). You obtain your student account from the university at the start of studies. More information about student accounts can be found on the USN website.


Eduroam uses wpa-enterprise for authentication. This means you need both a username and password to log in. Many devices such as smart TV, Chromecast, Apple TV and gaming consoles do not support this and therefore cannot be used on Eduroam.

WiFi public areas

These wireless networks are also available in public areas (kitchen/lounge/hallway).

My keycard: Digital key in app or on My page at ssn.no

You can lock yourself in both with a physical key card and digitally via My key card in the Student Sørøst app or on My page from ssn.no.

The key card function is activated from 1 pm on the day your contract starts. Remember that you MUST collect the physical key card in addition.

Subject to errors in inventory. In addition, some inventory may apply to common areas and not the individual unit.

All keys and key cards must be delivered by 10 am on the last day of the contract.

The housing unit must be ready for handover (emptied, cleared and cleaned).

You can either deliver the key in the service office or in one of our dropboxes.
